Calm blocks of sky blue bracket a frenetic field of horizontal strokes and prohibitive texts in this No Fishing Sign. Amidst many veiled layers—in white, red, olive, and orange—one can make out texts written in black marker: “NO FISHING,” “NO MAJESTY,” “NO HUNTING,” “NO AMNESTY,” “NO TRESPASSING.” Several have been struck through with red or orange oil pastel. On the final layer, at the top third of the composition, “NO FISHING” has been reiterated once more, this time in red enamel.
